What to Tell Us When You Contact ZAP
To help us understand the situation and confirm the correct price, please tell us:
-
the service address or Calgary community;
-
whether the property is residential or commercial;
-
where the wasps are active;
-
whether you can see the nest or only an entrance point;
-
whether the activity is indoors or wasps are entering a living or working space;
-
whether a ladder may be required;
-
whether decks, fences, landscaping, sloped ground, power lines or other obstacles affect access;
-
whether there appears to be more than one active nest or entrance.
You do not need to approach the nest or climb a ladder. Tell us only what you can observe safely.
How ZAP’s Wasp Service Works
1. Speak With a Certified Applicator
When you call during regular phone hours, a certified Alberta Structural Pesticide Applicator will ask about the location, height, visibility and accessibility of the activity.
This helps ZAP determine whether standard pricing applies or whether the location requires a separate access assessment.
2. Assess the Nest or Active Entrance
At the property, the technician assesses the visible activity, apparent nest or entrance location, surrounding conditions and safe access.
The visible opening is not always the physical location of the nest. Wasps may travel through a soffit, siding gap, wall cavity or other concealed space before reaching the colony.
3. Treat the Accessible Nesting Area
The technician applies the treatment appropriate to the location and conditions.
When the nest is concealed and cannot be physically reached, treatment may be applied through the active entrance or another accessible part of the nesting area.
ZAP uses pest-control products registered for use in Canada and applies them according to the approved product label and the conditions at the treatment site.
4. Allow the Treatment to Work
Wasp activity often decreases within hours or a day, but please allow up to seven days for the treatment to eliminate the colony.
If covered activity continues after seven days, call or text ZAP so the location can be reassessed under the seasonal warranty.
Wasp-Treatment Pricing and Seasonal Warranty
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| First standard, safely accessible wasp nest or active nest entrance within Calgary city limits | $175 + GST |
| Each additional standard nest treated during the same visit | $25 + GST |
| First new standard nest treated during a separate visit later in the same wasp season | $125 + GST |
| Each additional standard nest treated during that later visit | $25 + GST |
| Ladder-required or unusually difficult-to-access location | Price confirmed before service |
What the Standard Price Covers
The $175 plus GST price applies to one standard wasp nest or active nest entrance within Calgary city limits that can be treated safely without:
-
a ladder;
-
specialised access equipment;
-
opening building materials;
-
repair or construction work;
-
unusual access or safety requirements.
A standard concealed nest can qualify when its active entrance can be treated safely under these conditions.
ZAP will confirm the price before treatment begins.
Service outside Calgary city limits is subject to service availability and pricing confirmed before booking.
Seasonal Warranty
Every wasp nest or active nest entrance treated by ZAP is covered for the remainder of the same Calgary wasp season.
For this warranty, the Calgary wasp season continues until winter freezing conditions naturally end outdoor wasp activity for the year.
Please allow up to seven days after treatment for the colony to be eliminated. Activity commonly decreases sooner, but concealed colonies and returning workers may remain visible for several days.
If activity from the treated colony continues after seven days, call or text ZAP. We will return to assess and re-treat the covered location at no additional treatment charge.
The seasonal warranty is not limited to one return visit.
The warranty applies to continued activity from the colony associated with the nest or active entrance ZAP treated.
New Nests Later in the Season
A genuinely new nest established later in a different location is a separate service.
During the same wasp season, the first new standard nest treated during a separate visit is $125 plus GST, and additional standard nests treated during that visit are $25 plus GST each.
Visible, Concealed and Elevated Wasp Nests
A visible hanging nest is different from wasps entering a soffit, siding gap, wall opening, attic, roofline or hole in the ground.
Many colonies are concealed inside structures and cannot be physically removed without opening building materials. Physical removal is therefore not always possible or necessary for treatment.
When a nest is accessible and removal is appropriate, the technician will explain whether physical removal forms part of the service.
When the nest is concealed, ZAP may treat the active entrance or another accessible part of the nesting area and allow the treatment to reach the colony.
Please tell us when activity is above approximately seven feet. Height, ladder requirements, roofline design, ground conditions and surrounding obstacles can affect access and pricing.
ZAP will discuss elevated or unusual locations with the customer and confirm whether they can be serviced safely.
What to Expect After Treatment
Activity frequently decreases within hours or a day, but not every colony responds at exactly the same rate.
Please allow up to seven days before deciding that the colony remains active.
When an accessible nest is physically removed, workers that were away from the nest may return and fly around the former nest location. These returning workers may appear confused and can remain visible for several hours or days.
When a concealed nest is treated through an entrance, wasps may continue travelling through the treated area while the treatment reaches the colony.
If activity associated with the treated location continues after seven days, call or text ZAP for warranty service.
Do not seal an active entrance or alter the treated area unless the technician advises you to do so. Sealing an entrance too soon can interfere with the service or change where the wasps travel.
Safety and Access Before the Appointment
Keep children, pets, customers, employees and other people away from the active nest or entrance area.
Do not strike, spray, block or attempt to remove an active nest before the technician arrives.
Do not climb a ladder to inspect the nest for ZAP. An approximate description from the ground is sufficient.
Please tell ZAP about:
-
known sting allergies at the property;
-
wasps entering occupied indoor areas;
-
electrical lines or equipment near the activity;
-
unstable ground or difficult ladder placement;
-
locked gates or restricted access;
-
other conditions that may affect safe service.
If someone experiences difficulty breathing, dizziness, widespread swelling or another severe reaction after a sting, seek emergency medical assistance.
Not Sure Whether They Are Wasps, Hornets or Bees?
Customers often use the terms wasp, hornet, yellow jacket and bee interchangeably.
If you are unsure what insect is present, tell us what it looks like, where it is active and what type of nest or entrance you can see. You may also send a photograph taken from a safe distance.
A certified applicator can discuss the activity and advise whether it falls within ZAP’s service scope.

Can ZAP help if I cannot see the nest?

Tell us where the activity is occurring, whether wasps are appearing indoors and whether the entrance is above approximately seven feet.
Service remains subject to safe access and an assessment of the location.
Does ZAP physically remove every nest?
No. Many nests are concealed inside walls, soffits, attics, rooflines or other spaces that cannot be reached without opening the structure.
When physical removal is practical and appropriate, the technician will explain whether it forms part of the service. Otherwise, treatment may be applied through the active entrance or another accessible part of the nesting area.
How long should wasp treatment take to work?
Activity often decreases within hours or a day, but customers should allow up to seven days for the colony to be eliminated.
If activity associated with the treated colony continues after seven days, contact ZAP for warranty service.
